What Crew Members Say About Ocean-Freedom

On the evening of June 25, 2017, a maritime incident occurred at 9:15 PM in the Kiel-Holtenau locks of the Kiel Canal involving the bulk carrier 'Ocean Freedom', which had arrived from Douala. The vessel inadvertently collided with the moored 'Emma' (IMO: 9374703) during a mooring operation. As the aft of the 'Ocean Freedom' veered towards the already anchored 'Emma', a crane aboard 'Ocean Freedom' struck an antenna on the 'Emma', resulting in its destruction. Although significant damage was observed on the starboard side, further assessment for additional damage was deemed necessary. Consequently, maritime traffic through the lock was halted until 10:15 PM. Following a police investigation into the allision, the 'Ocean Freedom' resumed its journey at 10:45 PM and successfully docked at Ocean Quay in Fredericia the following day at approximately 9 AM. The 'Emma', meanwhile, was en route from Ijmuiden to Halmstad and managed to dock at the Lindenau Yard in Kiel on the same day at 8:15 PM for essential repairs. On October 29, 2015, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Coast Guard, along with state and local agencies, responded to an allision involving the cargo vessel 'Ocean Freedom', which had just arrived from Colon, and an unmanned barge owned by Kirby Inland Marine. This unfortunate incident occurred at cargo dock 12 in the Corpus Christi Inner Harbor. At the time of the collision, the barge was not loaded, while the 'Ocean Freedom' was transporting steel. The force of the impact resulted in significant damage to the bow of the 'Ocean Freedom', which collided with the barge held in place by the tug 'Pecos' (MMSI No.: 366996630). Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders were notified of the situation and promptly dispatched a 45-foot response boat from Station Port Aransas. Additionally, a team of marine investigators, inspectors, and pollution response personnel was mobilized to the scene.
