The vessel, operated under the Military Sealift Command (MSC), was journeying to Banyuwangi, Indonesia, when an unexpected situation unfolded. Captain Christopher Hill, the ship's master, recounted that his routine arrival plans were disrupted when an alarming report was received from the officer-of-the-watch: a man was perilously standing atop an overturned outrigger fishing boat. The distressed fisherman was in dire straits, caught in a relentless current that threatened to sweep him into the vast, uncharted waters of the Indian Ocean. "Later, I discovered that the small craft had capsized due to a squall the previous day and that the fisherman had been adrift for approximately 20 hours amid challenging sea conditions before we arrived," Hill stated.
