In a notable maritime operation, the Panamax vessel, Trina Oldendorff, owned by Oldendorff, recently completed a successful transshipment off the Andaman Islands. The vessel, which has a deadweight tonnage of 75,053 and was launched in 2013, initially loaded an impressive 73,086 metric tons of coking coal at Gladstone, Australia. After setting sail towards the Andaman Islands, the Trina Oldendorff conducted a transshipment operation near Port Meadow, transferring 25,000 metric tons of coal to the M/V Spar Rigel, a vessel weighing 58,000 tdw that was built in 2010. This operation was crucial due to the draft restrictions of approximately 7.5 meters imposed at the Indian port of Haldia. Following this transshipment, the Trina Oldendorff continued its journey to India, where it proceeded to offload part of its remaining cargo. A heartbreaking incident occurred on March 13, 2014, aboard the 'Trina Oldendorff,' when a 41-year-old Maldivian crew member from Fuvahmulah succumbed to abdominal pain after several days of illness. The cargo ship made port in Quanzhou on March 21, but due to the unfortunate circumstances, the deceased could not be buried as his passing did not occur on Chinese soil. The shipping agent made urgent arrangements to repatriate the body via aircraft, while it was temporarily preserved in a freezer onboard the vessel.
