Collision Incident in Hong Kong Waters Involving ONE Columbia and Clifford Maersk
On February 28, 2025, a maritime incident unfolded in Hong Kong as the container ship 'ONE Columbia', while making its approach from Chiwan, collided with the berthed vessel 'Clifford Maersk' (IMO: 9198575) at the Kwai Chung No. 9 Terminal. The 'ONE Columbia' experienced a loss of power moments before the allision, which likely prompted the crew to initiate emergency measures, including dropping anchor. Despite their efforts, the ship struck the starboard side of the 'Clifford Maersk' during its maneuver to berth, resulting in the unfortunate dislodging of three containers from the latter vessel. Additionally, 'ONE Columbia' sustained a significant hull breach, measuring approximately two meters in length. Swift action from the Hong Kong Marine Department ensured the retrieval of all containers that fell into the sea, and fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries or oil spills. An official investigation into the collision has been launched. Following the event, 'Clifford Maersk' resumed its voyage, departing from the port on March 2 at 5 a.m. UTC, headed for Shanghai with an estimated time of arrival on March 4. The 'ONE Columbia' also set sail on March 2, destined for Ningbo.
