On the evening of August 5, 2017, the Canadian schooner 'Empire Sandy' (740 dwt, IMO: 5071561) was involved in a collision with the bulk carrier 'Ina' at Lock 8 in Port Colborne while the city was celebrating its annual Canal Days festival. The incident occurred when the tall ship first struck the lock's wall before making contact with the stern of the 'Ina', which had departed Port Colborne earlier that day on its way to Montreal. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from this allision. By around 10:30 p.m., passengers aboard the 'Empire Sandy' were safely brought back into the lock.
