Hapag-Lloyd Provides Update on OOCL Canada Following Serious Engine Issues

On Saturday, November 16, 2013, the OOCL Canada experienced significant issues with its Main Engine System, as detailed in a recent press release from Hapag-Lloyd. In light of the situation, the ship's Master recommended conducting a thorough inspection of the vessel in order to ensure the safety of the crew, cargo, and containers aboard. Consequently, it was decided that the OOCL Canada would not complete its Trans-Pacific journey from Kaohsiung to Long Beach. The vessel is now scheduled to dock at Shanghai (Yangshan) on approximately November 23, 2013, to undergo emergency repairs. In the meantime, OOCL Tianjin is set to take over the OOCL Canada’s route, with its arrival in Long Beach expected around December 7, 2013.

Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL) proudly introduced its latest addition, the OOCL Canada, an impressive 8,888 TEU container ship, during a grand naming ceremony today at the state-of-the-art Changxing Island shipyard, operated by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. (HZ) in Shanghai, China. As the second vessel in a series of eight 8,888 TEU ships commissioned from Hudong-Zhonghua, OOCL Canada boasts remarkable dimensions of 335 meters in length and 42.8 meters in width, with a deadweight capacity of approximately 100,400 metric tons. This new ship is set to enhance OOCL's service on the Middle East Asia express route, facilitating crucial Intra-Asia Trade. The vessel's operational journey will span 42 days, commencing in Shanghai and making pivotal stops at Ningbo, Hong Kong, Shekou, Singapore, Jebel Ali, Dammam, and Port Klang, before efficiently completing the itinerary by sailing back to Singapore, Hong Kong, and finally returning to Shanghai.
