OOCL Welcomes OOCL Germany: A New Era for Sustainable Shipping
On August 22, 2023, OOCL proudly marked a significant milestone with the christening of Hull H2173, now known as OOCL Germany. This impressive mega containership, boasting a capacity of 21,413 TEU, was expertly built at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard located on Geoje Island. As the second vessel in a series of six 21,000 TEU class newbuilds ordered from this renowned shipyard, OOCL Germany represents a major leap forward in enhancing the operational efficiency and competitiveness of OOCL's modern fleet. OOCL's commitment to sustainability is apparent in the advanced design of OOCL Germany and her sister ships. Each vessel is crafted with cutting-edge green technologies that not only comply with but exceed today’s environmental standards. Remarkably, OOCL Germany’s energy performance surpasses the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) baseline by 48%, setting a new benchmark ahead of the International Maritime Organization's 2025 requirements. In her upcoming journeys, OOCL Germany will service the Asia-Europe trade lane under the LL1 service, with a comprehensive port rotation schedule that includes key global ports: Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Yantian, Singapore (via Suez Canal), Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Gdansk, Wilhelmshaven, and returning via Suez Canal back to Singapore, Yantian, and finally Shanghai, completing a fully packed 77-day round trip. This strategic addition to the fleet underscores OOCL's dedication to pioneering sustainable shipping practices while facilitating global trade.
