OOCL Celebrates Double Christening of Newly Launched Megaships
Hong Kong: In a significant milestone for the shipping sector, OOCL of Hong Kong unveiled its two largest container ships today, marking a new chapter in its maritime operations. This momentous event took place at Samsung Heavy Industries’ shipyard situated on Geoje Island, South Korea, where the 13,208 TEU vessels received their names. The first of the two ships, m.v. OOCL Brussels, was named by Mrs. Hsu Lai, Chao-Yin, spouse of Shiu, Kuang-Si, President of Mega International Commercial Bank, based in Taiwan. The second vessel was christened m.v. NYK Helios, with the honor going to Mrs. Nintira Sophonpanich, the wife of Chartsiri Sophonpanich, who serves as the President of Bangkok Bank. The OOCL Brussels is set to operate on Loop 5 of the Asia–Europe service, with a robust port rotation that includes Kwangyang, Pusan, Yangshan, Shekou, Yantian, Singapore, Suez Canal, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Thamesport, Suez Canal, Singapore, and a return to Kwangyang over a 77-day round trip. Meanwhile, the NYK Helios will be chartered to NYK and assigned to Loop 4 of the Asia-Europe service, covering a port rotation that includes Ningbo, Yangshan, Yantian, Singapore, Suez Canal, Le Havre, Southampton, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Suez Canal, Jeddah, Singapore, Yantian, and back to Ningbo, also within a 77-day cycle.
