OOCL Celebrates Addition of Tenth 13,208 TEU Containership to its Fleet
On Tuesday, May 20, 2014, OOCL hosted a grand christening event on Geoje Island, South Korea, marking the introduction of its tenth 13,208 TEU containership, the OOCL Singapore. The vessel was named by Mrs. Brenda Lo, Managing Director for Asia at Permal (Hong Kong) Limited, in a ceremony held at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard. Guests were treated to a memorable occasion that included blessings for the ship and its crew, as she is set to operate on the Asia-Europe trade routes. The event was graced by significant figures, including Mr. Weber Lo, the Citi Country Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Citi Hong Kong and Macau, who served as Guest of Honor, and Mr. Hisanaga Tanimura, President and CEO of Financial Products Group. In his speech, Mr. Alan Tung, Acting Chief Financial Officer of Orient Overseas (International) Limited, expressed his appreciation to all contributors to the newbuilding initiative. He emphasized OOCL's unwavering commitment to maintaining quality and competitiveness in its operations. "With the delivery of OOCL Singapore, we have successfully completed our previous Mega Class newbuilding order. The composition, cost efficiency, and technical specifications of our vessels significantly enhance our competitive edge in the market," Mr. Tung stated. He added that OOCL remains at the forefront of the industry, excelling in operational performance and financial stability. "We are strategically positioned for the future to deliver exceptional service, upgrade our fleet, and optimize cost efficiency," he concluded. The OOCL Singapore is set to serve the Loop 6 service on the Asia-Europe trade route, with an impressive port call itinerary that includes Kaohsiung, Xiamen, Shekou, Hong Kong, Singapore, Colombo, passing through the Suez Canal to Southampton, Antwerp, Hamburg, Rotterdam, and returning via Jebel Ali, Singapore, Shekou, and Kaohsiung, all within a 77-day round trip.
