Xiang Fu Container Ship Returns to Port After Allision Incident in Taichung
On February 20 at 12:26 a.m., the container vessel 'Xiang Fu', moored at pier no. 44 in Taichung Port, Taiwan, broke free from its mooring lines due to severe winds. This incident led to an allision with the stern of the 'OSG Admiral', which was docked at pier no. 45, causing the 'Xiang Fu' to subsequently run aground. Fortunately, three tugboats assisted in refloating the vessel during high tide, successfully returning it to berth no. 44 by 1:15 p.m. The port authority conducted inspections and investigations on February 21 to evaluate the damage sustained by both vessels. The 'OSG Admiral' set sail at 12:50 p.m., bound for Shan Tou with an estimated arrival date of February 25, while the 'Xiang Fu' continued its operations, discharging cargo. Notably, both vessels' bulwarks sustained damage; the 'Xiang Fu' suffered harm to its starboard side bulbous bow, while the 'OSG Admiral' incurred damage at its starboard stern.
Bulk Carrier 'Xiang Fu' Drifts and Allides at Taichung Port Amid Storm
On February 20, 2022, the bulk carrier 'Xiang Fu' (IMO: 9129029) experienced a harrowing incident at Taichung port, Taiwan, when it broke its moorings during a fierce storm affecting the Taiwan Strait and western Taiwan's coast. The vessel, untethered and vulnerable, drifted away from its assigned berth and collided with the anchored 'OSG Admiral', which fortunately endured only minor damage. After continuing its uncontrolled journey across the port basin, the 'Xiang Fu' ultimately ran aground at the embankment. Thanks to the prompt assistance of nearby tugs, the bulk carrier was successfully refloated approximately 11 hours later and was returned to its original docking location. Although reports indicated the potential for an oil leak, the severity and specifics of any damages remain unverified.
