On September 17, 2019, the cargo vessel 'Osiris' encountered an oil filter malfunction while navigating 22 nautical miles south of Shoreham Harbour, specifically at coordinates 50 28 46.2N, 000 17 37.8W. With a crew of 22 on board, the vessel was en route from Klaipeda to Martas, carrying 1,047 tonnes of scrap metal. On April 22, 2023, the bulk carrier Pacific Sea encountered a significant issue, reporting a mechanical breakdown around 0600 while drifting 24 miles west of Bodega Bay, California, en route to Stockton. In response to the emergency, the vessel's owners promptly enlisted the help of Starlight Marine Services, which dispatched two tugs to assist. The United States Coast Guard Cutter Sockeye also arrived on the scene to oversee the towing operation. Although the Pacific Sea was not carrying any cargo, it contained nearly 200,000 gallons of fuel oil, raising concerns about potential pollution. The tugs, Millenium Star and Millenium Falcon, successfully took the vessel under tow around 2300 on April 24. By 0100 UTC on April 26, the convoy was positioned 30 nautical miles northwest of San Francisco Bay, with an estimated arrival time in the bay at 0600 local time. Upon reaching the Port of Oakland, the Pacific Sea will undergo necessary repairs and a thorough inspection by Coast Guard personnel to ensure safe operations going forward.
