On June 17, 2024, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced sanctions against the oil tanker 'Otaria', its managing firm Stellar Wave Marine L.L.C., and the vessel's captain for their involvement in the transportation of sanctioned cargo. This particular cargo, associated with Iran, plays a crucial role in funding Houthi weapon procurement efforts. The armament purchased through these funds has been utilized by the Houthi military to orchestrate assaults on commercial shipping vessels within the Red Sea. The sanctions were enacted following the tanker’s loading of this recognized contraband in late May 2024, directly tied to the financier of the Houthis, Sa’id al-Jamal. Currently, the 'Otaria' is on a course to reach Singapore, where it is scheduled for cargo discharge on June 20.

In a significant nautical event, the vessel named Gala successfully arrived at Chittagong Anchorage on February 28, 2022. This key port in Bangladesh continues to be a pivotal hub for maritime traffic and shipping operations in the region.

The vessel has been sold to breakers in Chittagong, where it will meet its end. The ship has undergone a renaming process and is now referred to as Gala. This sale marks the conclusion of its operational life as it transitions into dismantling.
