Zueitina Port Welcomes First Crude Oil Tanker in Nearly 10 Months

May 02, 2014 21:48

On May 1, 2023, Libya's Zueitina oil port celebrated a significant milestone by welcoming its first crude oil tanker in almost ten months, signaling a gradual return to normalcy after prolonged protests. The State-run National Oil Corporation (NOC) reported that the tanker would be loading an impressive one million barrels of crude oil. According to NOC spokesman Mohammed El Harari, the ship, chartered by Austria's OMV, is named Ottoman Tenacity. Following this first delivery, a second tanker is scheduled to arrive on May 5, with a third tanker expected to follow shortly thereafter. NOC officially lifted the force majeure status on the port on April 28, 2023, after reaching an agreement with federalist protesters to reactivate the smallest two out of four previously blocked eastern ports. This development is a positive sign for Libya’s crucial oil industry as it seeks to recover from the disruptions caused by recent unrest.
