Vessel Collision in Avacha Bay: 'Shantar' Strikes Cargo Ship 'Tanir'

Jan 03, 2020 22:36

On January 2, 2020, a maritime incident occurred in Avacha Bay, located off the Kamchatka Peninsula, when the fishing vessel 'Shantar' collided with the cargo ship 'Tanir' (IMO: 8711318). The impact, which took place at the anchorage, resulted in the bow of the 'Shantar' striking the port side of the 'Tanir,' leading to significant damage including a hull breach below the waterline. In a prompt response to the situation, divers quickly intervened and successfully sealed the leak with a hard patch, preventing further water ingress.
