In a heartbreaking incident that took place recently near Luanda, a crew member aboard the drilling vessel "Pacific Avenger" lost his life while working on an oil field off Angola. The tragedy unfolded on Block 17, which is managed by Total E & P Angola, during a critical refueling operation involving the drilling ship "Saipem 12000". The sailor was thrown overboard when a loading hose became entangled in the port side propeller. Swiftly retrieved by a rescue boat from the "Saipem 12000", he was found seriously injured and was promptly transported back to the ship for initial medical assistance from the onboard doctor. Unfortunately, due to the severity of his injuries, a medical evacuation was necessary. A helicopter was dispatched to facilitate his transfer to a hospital in Luanda. Tragically, the sailor succumbed to his injuries en route. This incident underscores the risks that maritime workers face and serves as a somber reminder of the essential safety protocols needed in the industry.
