In a brazen act of theft, the cargo vessel 'Pacific Champion' was targeted by two intruders at Takoradi anchorage, located at approximately 04°54'N, 01°43'W, during the early hours of February 2, 2018, at around 02:45 a.m. As the robbers attempted to board the vessel, they were quickly spotted by the vigilant watchman, who raised the alarm by shouting and notifying the bridge. In response to the situation, the Officer of the Watch activated the ship's alarm and blew the vessel's whistle, prompting the intruders to flee. The thieves jumped into a waiting boat where three accomplices were ready to assist in their getaway. A subsequent investigation revealed that five heavy-duty batteries had been stolen during this incident. The Officer of the Watch promptly established communication with the Sekondi naval base via VHF radio, leading to the dispatch of a patrol vessel to monitor the Takoradi anchorage area for any signs of the culprits.
