On March 19, 2016, the cargo vessel 'Pacific Dawn' encountered engine troubles shortly after departing from Harlingen. The freighter ran aground at the Pollendam breakwater, located at the harbor's entrance. To prevent further grounding, the crew promptly dropped anchor. Tugs from Tuinman and Noordgat were dispatched to assist in the vessel's recovery. Following the successful restart of the main engine while anchored in Kimstergat, north of Harlingen, the 'Pacific Dawn' was able to resume its journey later that evening, escorted by several tugs, and set course for Mongstad. This unusual arrangement came after the ship experienced significant engine room flooding caused by a valve malfunction shortly after arriving in Hull on January 2. After a careful tow, the 'Pacific Dawn' successfully navigated the Amsterdam North lock on January 14 at 10:30 p.m., reaching her destination at Velsen Noord just before midnight.
