On September 26, 2013, the NYK containership 'Pacific Islander II' played a crucial role in a maritime rescue operation in the South Pacific. While on its journey from the Tongan capital of Nuku’alofa to Noumea, New Caledonia, the vessel received an urgent appeal for help from New Zealand's Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre. The call was to assist a yacht in distress, prompting the 'Pacific Islander II' to change course immediately. At 7:13 p.m. local time, the containership successfully retrieved all three crew members aboard the stranded yacht. Thankfully, those rescued were reported to be in good health. Following the operation, the crew members disembarked from the 'Pacific Islander II' upon arrival at Noumea on September 28. The ship continued its journey, departing the port again on October 1, with its next destination set for Kaoshiung, where it is expected to arrive on October 12.
