Pacific Valkyrie Supports Grounded POE Giant 12 at Pedra Branca
On December 26, 2014, the offshore supply vessel, Pacific Valkyrie, was deployed to assist the Singapore-registered barge POE Giant 12, which had run aground at Pedra Branca following severe weather conditions. Fortunately, there were no reports of oil spills or injuries resulting from the incident. The barge, loaded with two bulk loader cranes, had initially departed from Singapore for Kuantan, Malaysia, the day prior, December 25. At approximately 6:45 a.m. on December 26, the vessel encountered deteriorating weather and, after attempting to return to Singapore, ultimately found itself stranded due to unfavorable sea conditions. Preliminary investigations revealed these details regarding the circumstances surrounding the grounding.
