On November 15, 2013, a significant firefighting effort took place in Seattle as the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) swiftly responded to a fire on the trawler 'Pacific Viking.' The alarm was raised at 10:15 a.m., prompting a robust response comprising nine fire engines, two ladder trucks, and two boats. The incident occurred in the Lake Washington Ship Canal, specifically near the Ballard Fred Meyer located at 653 NW 41st St., just east of the Ballard Bridge. The fire originated in the welding galley on the main deck of the moored trawler. Despite attempts by the vessel's crew to extinguish the flames, the fire spread quickly from the galley to the fo'c'sle and encroached near the wheelhouse. Fortunately, the crew managed to evacuate safely with no reported injuries. A total of up to 90 firefighters from the SFD were deployed to the scene, managing to bring the fire under control within 25 minutes. Once the flames were subdued, rotating crews remained to ensure all hot spots were thoroughly addressed.
