The accident took place during complex heavy lift cargo operations while the crew was engaged in relocating a pontoon on the ship’s deck. Unfortunately, the crew member became trapped between a raised pontoon and the ship's structure, leading to fatal injuries. The 'Paderewski,' which had arrived in Baltimore on December 19 after departing from Plaquemines Parish Port, remained docked as of December 21. On August 31, 2020, the Vietnamese Coast Guard took action against the cargo vessel 'PAderewski' for allegedly anchoring without authorization. The ship, which had departed from Map Ta Phut in Thailand on August 24, was en route to Dung Quat, Vietnam. After entering Vietnamese waters on August 27, the 'PAderewski' anchored north of Dung Quat without proper clearance. The Coast Guard spotted the vessel on August 30 and intervened by boarding the ship. Following the boarding, officials initiated an administrative violation case against the master. The vessel then proceeded to Dung Quat, where it safely moored on the port’s designated anchorage at coordinates 15° 26.49' N 108° 45.23' E on the same day.
