Palmali Group Celebrates Delivery of New Tanker MUGAN from Besiktas Shipyard

Feb 15, 2012 09:43

On February 10, 2012, Palmali Group proudly received its latest addition to the Armada series, the product tanker MUGAN, marking the fifth vessel delivered from this innovative class. The tanker, which boasts a deadweight tonnage of 7,100 DWT (building number 16), was crafted by Besiktas Shipyard in Yalova, as reported by the Marine Engineering Bureau. MUGAN was initiated on December 23, 2009, and officially launched on November 29, 2011. Palmali Group initially commissioned a total of 10 product tankers from the Armada series under Project RST22M, subsequently exercising an option for five additional vessels in late May. With a scheduled completion date set for the end of 2013, Besiktas Shipyard is on track to fulfill this ambitious order. Two vessels from this series are already operational, enhancing the capabilities of Palmali's fleet. The RST22M project signifies an evolution from the earlier Project 005RST01, commonly referred to as the 'Armada' first series. The original Armada vessels were built between 2002 and 2006 by Selah and ADA shipyards, designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau specifically for Palmali Group. Project RST22M serves as an upgraded version of the second series tankers (Project RST22), which were launched at the Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard in Nizhny Novgorod during 2008-2009. Notably, the ten tankers from the first Armada series and an additional five from the New Armada series play a crucial role in 'river-sea' transportation, dealing with a variety of cargoes, including crude oil, fuel oil, diesel, and vegetable oils. These versatile vessels operate across critical shipping routes in the Caspian, Black, Mediterranean, Baltic, and North Seas, with services extending to European and Irish Sea routes, ensuring the efficient movement of essential commodities across key maritime corridors.
