Collision Alert: Cargo Ship 'Magda D' Strikes Tanker 'Maersk Barry' in Neuhöfer Canal
On the evening of September 4, 2012, at approximately 9:40 PM, an incident occurred involving the Antigua-Barbuda flagged cargo vessel, m/v 'Magda D', which collided with the tanker 'Maersk Barry' while navigating the Neuhöfer Canal. The 'Magda D', arriving from Riga and under pilot assistance, was en route to berth 50 in the canal. At that moment, the 'Maersk Barry' was securely docked at ADM Köhlbrand. Due to strong currents affecting the upstream maneuver, the 'Magda D' veered to port to enter the canal, ultimately making contact with the 'Maersk Barry' on its port side. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, but damages were incurred; the 'Magda D' experienced significant issues with its railings and hatch installations costing several thousand Euros. On the other hand, the 'Maersk Barry' sustained minor dents on the port side aft. In response to the incident, police initiated an investigation, gathering radar and VHF data, and subsequently seized the 'Magda D' for further examination.
