Incident Report: Tanker PAROS Runs Aground in Flushing
On the evening of December 27, 2017, the tanker 'Paros' (IMO 9711511) experienced an unexpected mishap while moored at Sloe Port in Flushing. The vessel broke free from its moorings and ended up grounded with its stern on the shore. At the time, the tanker was secured at the buoys. In response, multiple tugboats, including 'Multratug 9', 'Multratug 27', and 'Union 8', along with patrol vessels 'VLB 7' and 'RWS 78' operated by Rijkswaterstaat, swiftly arrived at the scene. However, the captain declined assistance under the Lloyd's Open Form (LOF) agreement. By 11 p.m., the 'Paros' was successfully moored at the RoRo pontoon in the northern Quarleshaven, assisted by the patrol boat 'VLB 6' (MMSI: 244650887). The tanker had previously arrived from Sines on December 24 around noon and was scheduled to depart on January 4, 2018, at 1:20 a.m., heading toward Suez with an estimated arrival date of January 15.
