On December 21, 2018, the ferry 'Passió Per Formentera' experienced a significant setback while navigating the Alboran Sea, travelling from Ceuta to Algeciras. A fire broke out in the auxiliary engine compartment, creating a challenging situation that rendered the vessel without propulsion approximately five miles off the coast of Ceuta after departing at 6 a.m. Fortunately, the fire was swiftly contained, and the ferry’s emergency protocols were set in motion. The 109 passengers aboard were safely assembled on deck, where they were provided with refreshments and snacks to ensure their comfort during the ordeal. Accompanying the passengers was a dedicated crew of 29 members. As the fire caused the interior lights of the ferry to fail, only the emergency lighting remained operational, creating a tense atmosphere on board. To assist with the emergency, search and rescue vessels 'Salvamar Atria' and 'Luz de Mar' were dispatched to tow the ferry back to port. Additionally, tugboats 'VB Hispania' (IMO: 9476018), 'VB Bulldog' (IMO: 8207692), and 'Sertosa Veintisiete' (IMO: 9060974) joined the scene, arriving at approximately 9 a.m. Although the ferry's service schedule was disrupted, other vessels from the company were set to cover the routes. On the evening of May 10, 2016, the ferry 'Passio per Formentera' experienced a mechanical failure while attempting to dock in Ceuta around 9 p.m. This unfortunate incident led to the vessel crashing into the quay, resulting in significant damage to both the ship's bow and the quay itself.
