Emergency Medevac Operation Near Puerto Rico for Crew Member

Aug 05, 2020 12:59

On August 4, 2020, a significant emergency medevac operation took place involving the tug 'Patriarch', located approximately 207 miles east of Turks and Caicos and 287 miles north of Puerto Rico. The vessel was en route from Jacksonville to San Juan when its captain urgently reached out to the Coast Guard Seventh District command for assistance with a seriously ill 59-year-old crew member who was experiencing severe medical complications and required immediate advanced medical care. In response, the Coast Guard orchestrated a plan to reroute the tug closer to Turks and Caicos to facilitate the medevac. A dedicated crew aboard a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, positioned in Great Inagua, Bahamas, successfully hoisted the man from the tug. Meanwhile, an HC-130 Hercules aircraft from Air Station Clearwater was on standby, providing crucial communication support and serving as a backup rescue asset throughout the operation. Upon arriving in Providenciales, both the injured crew member and a Coast Guard rescue swimmer were transferred to the Hercules aircraft, which then safely transported the individual to awaiting emergency medical services in St. Petersburg, ensuring he was in stable condition after the operation. Unmanned Barge 'Patriarch' Catches Fire Off Nassau, Bahamas

Mar 07, 2014 10:03

On March 6, 2014, the District Seven Command Center in Miami was actively managing firefighting operations for an unmanned 730-foot barge, the 'Patriarch', which was engulfed in flames approximately 86 miles northeast of Nassau, Bahamas. The emergency was reported around 12:30 p.m. by the 'Patriarch', which had departed from Jacksonville shortly after midnight on March 5, headed for San Juan.
