Engine Failure Strikes Tanker Paxoi in Gibraltar Strait
On November 13 at 6:30 p.m., the tanker Paxoi experienced a significant engine failure while navigating the Gibraltar Strait, shortly after departing from Algeciras with a cargo of 3,500 tons of oil products destined for Tangier. The distress signal was relayed to Salvamento Maritimo just past midnight. In response, the salvage tug SAR Mastelero (IMO: 9525730) was dispatched to provide assistance. By 10 p.m., the Paxoi was successfully taken in tow. The operation saw the convoy expand with the inclusion of tugs Wellington (MMSI: 236112561) and Rooke (MMSI: 236112560). Together, they proceeded towards Gibraltar, where the tanker safely docked at the Detached Mole on November 15 at noon.
