On June 16, 2025, the cargo vessel 'Piero A' was detained in Varna after being found with a staggering 25 deficiencies during an inspection, 16 of which were categorized as severe enough to warrant the vessel's detention. The issues included the absence of critical documents such as the Cargo Ship Safety Construction Entries and an expired medical certificate. Additionally, several safety and navigation failures were noted: missing and non-approved electronic charts, improperly stowed and obstructed lifeboats, and inoperative lifeboats and rescue boat inventory. Multiple fire safety violations were also discovered, including malfunctioning fire doors and an inoperative fire detection system, alongside inadequate crew training for emergency situations. The vessel's muster list was found incomplete, and its radar system was reported as inoperative, while the ISM certificate did not meet required standards. After being detained, the 'Piero A' was released on July 16, 2025, departing the port on June 19. As of July 17, the tanker remained anchored off Varna, positioned at 43° 08' N 027° 57' E.

On the evening of March 28, 2012, at 6:30 p.m., the KNRM-station Neeltje Jans was dispatched for an urgent medical evacuation of a Romanian engineer aboard the tanker 'Mary Wonsild.' The vessel was anchored at Schouwenbank, approximately 15 miles off the Dutch coast while on its journey from Rotterdam to Antwerp. The lifeboat 'Christien,' currently standing in for the 'Koopmansdank' which is undergoing repairs, arrived at the scene in just 35 minutes. Thanks to favorable weather conditions, the rescue operation proceeded smoothly, allowing for the safe transfer of the engineer.
