Working Conditions Aboard the Plata-North

On March 9, 2011, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency successfully intercepted a group of seven pirates attempting to carry out a robbery on the tanker 'Front Queen', located just 2.8 nautical miles off Pulau Mungging in Pengerang. The enforcement agency was conducting routine patrols when they were alerted by an emergency alarm from the 'Front Queen' at approximately 3:15 a.m. Upon arrival, officers observed a wooden vessel nearby where suspects were seen discarding plastic packages and two bamboo sticks into the waters, potentially incriminating evidence of their intentions. Initial investigations revealed that one of the pirates, armed with a parang, had gained access to the tanker and pursued a crew member who attempted to raise the alarm. Fortunately, the crew member escaped and notified the officer-in-charge, prompting immediate action. The enforcement team managed to seize several items, including a bayonet, an axe, and various spanners believed to be tools associated with the pirates' criminal activities.
