On October 27, 2011, the cargo vessel 'Pluto', while en route from Gdansk to Vordingborg, experienced a serious incident when it struck the northern pillar of the Storstrøm (Great Belt) Bridge during the early afternoon hours. The crew did not report the collision until later that day. In response, the Søværnets Operative Kommando's Maritime Assistance Service (MAS) initiated an investigation into the matter, leading to the detention of the ship in Vordingborg. The collision resulted in significant damage to the bridge, with a 2-meter-long and 20-centimeter-deep gouge located approximately eight meters above the waterline. As a precautionary measure, authorities closed the bridge to rail traffic after discovering cracks in multiple spans. Fortunately, the 'Pluto' itself sustained only minor damage from the accident.
