A dramatic incident unfolded on June 4, 2018, when a fire broke out on the 'NBA Van Gogh', a bulk carrier docked in the industrial area of Torres port. The ship was in the process of discharging a massive coal cargo, which it had been unloading since May 30, destined for Ep Produzione in Fiume Santo. At the time of the fire, approximately 66,000 tons of coal remained in the ship's holds. The crew acted swiftly by sealing the affected cargo hold, but temperatures soared to an alarming 280 degrees. Fortunately, by the end of the day, firefighting efforts succeeded in bringing the temperatures down to a safer range of 100 to 80 degrees. Firefighting units from Mbc and radiometry were also engaged in the effort to contain the fire. Throughout the night, firefighters continued to monitor the temperature levels in the holds to ensure safety.
