On May 26, 2013, the tugboat "Jascon 4" tragically capsized while assisting a tanker at a Single System Mooring approximately 30 km offshore of Escravos, leading to the loss of 12 crew members on board. At that moment, the "Lewek Toucan," under charter by West African Ventures and equipped with a dedicated team of DCN divers, was 17 hours away, engaged in diving operations for the Okpoho Okono-16 pipeline project. As news of the incident began to unfold, the divers contemplated the possibility of survivors. Following urgent discussions between the client and DCN Global's management, a prompt decision was made to divert to the accident site. Consequently, the team's current mission was aborted, and the divers, who had been working at depths of 70 meters, underwent decompression during their transit, knowing the Jascon 4 lay at a depth of only 30 meters. Upon arrival, divers found the wreck upside down, with one compartment surprisingly containing an air pocket where the cook was discovered alive and well. He was safely retrieved by the DCN team, instilling hope that more victims might still be found. Unfortunately, alongside the rescued cook, the six divers could only recover the bodies of 10 deceased crew members.
