On February 23, 2019, the freighter 'Joy H' encountered an unexpected grounding incident while navigating into Margreth Port in San Giorgio di Nogaro at approximately 12:50 p.m. The vessel, laden with a salt cargo that originated from Alexandria, became stranded on a sandy bottom near the breakwater buoy of the nearby port of Buso. Efforts to dislodge the ship proved unsuccessful, prompting the call for assistance. A tugboat dispatched from Porto Nogaro was unable to pull the 'Joy H' back to deeper waters due to the prevailing low tide. Throughout the ordeal, the pilot, Pietro Russo, remained onboard to coordinate the rescue efforts. Patrol boats from both the port captains of Grado and Porto Nogaro were deployed to monitor the situation. By 11 p.m., after several hours of attempts, the local tug, along with another rescue tug that had come from Monfalcone, successfully refloated the 'Joy H'. The freighter was secured in position 45° 39.01' N 013° 17.95' E by 11:45 p.m. Following the incident, a sandbank that had developed due to recent storms led to discussions about potentially implementing a temporary draft reduction order of 6.20 meters for vessels entering and exiting the port, pending the restoration of water depths at Margreth Harbour. The 'Joy H' eventually arrived at Monfalcone on March 2, 2019.
