Towed to Safety: The 'Proekt-1' Trawler Rescued by Norwegian Coastguard
On March 5, 2019, at 11:00 AM, the fishing trawler 'Proekt-1', carrying a crew of 20, encountered engine trouble while navigating the fishing grounds of Røstbanken, located 50 miles west of Røst. Prompt action was initiated when the Norwegian Coastguard patrol boat 'Sortland' responded to the distress call. 'Sortland' successfully established a towing connection and began the journey back to Sortland Sound, which took approximately 19 hours. Early on the morning of March 6, the situation was efficiently managed by the NSSR lifeboat 'Knut Hoem', which took over the towing duties of the stricken trawler. By 6:00 AM, 'Proekt-1' was safely moored at Sortland for necessary repairs. The vessel had originally set out on March 1 at 10:30 PM. Following successful repairs, 'Proekt-1' resumed its journey on March 14 at 1:00 PM, sailing towards Melbu and subsequently heading into the Norwegian Sea by 5:30 PM on the same day.
