The Psd2: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

In a troubling development, eight crew members from the AHTS PSD2 are currently stranded at the Durban port after the vessel was detained. According to the Catholic charity Apostleship of the Sea (AoS), these 11 crew members have not received their wages for up to 15 months, with ten of them reportedly owed nine months' pay and one crew member facing an astonishing 15 months without compensation. The situation has escalated as the company responsible for their employment has repeatedly postponed payments, promising remuneration without delivering on those promises. Plans are in motion to sell the PSD2, which may enable the distressed crew members to finally receive their overdue wages and arrange for repatriation. Unfortunately, the remaining crew members, which consist of the master and two engineering officers, are still confined to the port and unable to leave. The crew's situation is further exacerbated by a lack of food and fresh water, and two crew members require immediate medical assistance. The AHTS PSD2, which docked in Durban on December 10, 2017, after arriving from Mozambique, has also been affected by pest issues. In response to this crisis, AoS has successfully secured an emergency grant of £1,000 from the Guild of Benevolence of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) to address urgent needs such as medical expenses, food, and sanitation for the crew members. This reflects the growing concern for seafarers' welfare amid ongoing challenges within the maritime industry.
