Security Alert for Passengers Aboard Queen Anne in Sulu-Celebes Sea Due to Pirate Activity

Mar 27, 2025 12:11

Passengers on the cruise ship 'Queen Anne' received cautionary alerts regarding potential pirate activities while sailing through the Sulu-Celebes Sea, en route from Darwin to Manila. On March 14, 2025, an announcement broadcast via loudspeaker informed guests, "This area is known for piracy threats... therefore we will be operating at a heightened level of security alertness during this period." As a precaution, access to the external promenade deck was restricted from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. until March 15, and only minimal lighting operations were implemented at night, urging guests to close their curtains. All blinds were drawn, ensuring a secure environment during nighttime hours. Cunard, the cruise line operating 'Queen Anne', indicated that these safety measures are standard protocol in certain regions, with no immediate threat reported to passengers or the ship itself. Despite these precautions, guests continued to enjoy their voyage uninterrupted, leading the ship to dock in Manila on March 16. The 'Queen Anne' embarked on a 111-night journey from Hamburg on January 7, with plans to return to its home port on April 29 after visiting numerous destinations including England, New York, Hawaii, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines, Vietnam, South Africa, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Medical Evacuation at Sea: Plymouth Lifeboat Assists Cruise Ship

Sep 25, 2024 11:59

On September 23, 2024, at 5:39 a.m., Plymouth RNLI's relief All-Weather Lifeboat ‘Volunteer Spirit’ was called into action by Falmouth Coastguard to facilitate a medical evacuation from the cruise ship 'Queen Anne'. The vessel, which was on its journey from Southampton, UK, to Cadiz, had found itself 1.5 nautical miles south of the Plymouth Breakwater. The lifeboat promptly launched from Millbay Marina at 6:15 a.m., making its way towards the cruise ship that was diverting from its course in the English Channel. By 6:25 a.m., the ‘Volunteer Spirit’ successfully rendezvoused with the 'Queen Anne'. The trained casualty care crew swiftly assessed the medical situation, collaborating with the cruise ship’s medical team. Together, they determined that the injured person needed to be transferred to the lifeboat using the pilot ladder. Once safely aboard, the patient was transported back to Plymouth Lifeboat Station, where they were handed over to the South Western Ambulance Service for further hospital care.
