Swift Rescue by Ragna: Capsized Trimaran Crew Safely Evacuated
On the evening of July 1, 2018, the crew aboard the vessel 'Ragna' played a crucial role in the rescue operation of a capsized trimaran during the Round Gotland Race. At 7:50 p.m., the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) received an emergency call from the trimaran's crew, who were in distress approximately 36 miles north of Gotska island. In response to the distress signal, multiple rescue units were mobilized, including the HMS 'Helsingborg' from the Swedish Navy, the Coast Guard vessel 'Triton - KBV 002', and the Lifeguard 001 helicopter. These teams were alerted at 8:00 p.m. As the 'Ragna' approached the scene, by 8:10 p.m., they spotted two individuals clinging to the hull of the overturned trimaran. The aircraft hovered above, where four crew members had been aboard, with two still trapped inside the submerged hull. Conditions at the site featured winds gusting between 12 and 14 meters per second, complicating the rescue efforts. At 8:40 p.m., the helicopter successfully hoisted the two individuals on the hull to safety, and just ten minutes later, the remaining two crew members were also evacuated. Fortunately, all four rescued were found uninjured and did not require medical attention, concluding the operation effectively. The 'Ragna', which had departed from Hamburg on June 30, made its way to Rauma, arriving at 9:40 a.m. on July 2. Ragna Container Ship Faces Engine Failure Near Vuosaari Channel
On December 31, 2013, the container ship 'Ragna' encountered a serious situation shortly after setting sail from Helsinki to Klaipeda. The vessel experienced an unexpected engine failure, jeopardizing its navigability near Torra and threatening to run aground at the Kuiva-Hevonen crossroads, located within the narrow confines of the Vuosaari channel. Fortunately, a quick-acting pilot boat came to the rescue, successfully maneuvering the distressed ship away from the treacherous rocks. Following this critical intervention, 'Ragna' was towed back to port where it awaited necessary repairs to restore its operational capability.
