Burn Incident in Engine Room of 'Rapallo' Injures Two Crew Members
On April 8, 2021, a serious incident unfolded aboard the 'Rapallo' as two Romanian crew members sustained injuries from burns in the engine room while working in Port Dickson. The injured crew members were swiftly transported to Port Dickson Hospital for medical attention and subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further treatment. Preliminary investigations are currently underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to this unfortunate occurrence. Meanwhile, the 'Rapallo' is docked at the Jimah Energy Ventures (JEV) Terminal in Port Dickson, where it is engaged in cargo unloading operations. Once these tasks are complete, the vessel will then be anchored. A dedicated team of investigators from the Central Region Marine Department, covering both Port Dickson and Port Klang, has been established to probe the incident, in accordance with Section 334 (1) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952.
Rapallo Successfully Refloated and Anchored Near Frederikshavn
In the early hours of February 23, 2023, around 3:30 a.m., the cargo vessel Rapallo was successfully refloated by two specialized tugs, Svitzer Trym and the larger Fairplay 33 (IMO: 9476006). These tugs had originally been dispatched from Bremerhaven on February 21 and arrived at the site of the grounding near Anholt on February 22 at 7:30 p.m. After refloating, the Rapallo was navigated approximately four miles away from its previous aground location and subsequently anchored off the coast of Frederikshavn that afternoon to undergo an inspection by divers. Tug and Anti-Pollution Vessel Respond to Grounding Incident Near Anholt
On February 22, the bulk carrier 'Rapallo' remained firmly grounded approximately five miles east of Anholt. In response to the situation, the anti-pollution vessel 'Mette Miljø' and the tug 'Svitzer Trym' were deployed to the site. The tug arrived at the stranded vessel around 3:30 PM on February 21, followed by the anti-pollution vessel at 8 PM. The 'Mette Miljø' took over from the guard ship 'Mickey A,' which had been monitoring the grounding area prior to their arrival.
