The Raven-Arrow: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On July 24, 2015, the 'Raven Arrow,' a vessel approximately 60 miles west of Cherbourg and heading towards Flushing, found itself embroiled in a medical emergency involving one of its crew members. A 33-year-old Filipino sailor experienced severe cardiac distress, prompting the vessel to contact the CROSS Jobourg for assistance. In response, the CROSS Jobourg coordinated a call with the Maritime Medical Consultation Center in Toulouse, which determined that a medical evacuation was necessary. To execute this urgent operation, an EC 225 helicopter from the Maupertus naval base was promptly dispatched, carrying a doctor and a nurse from the medical center in Querqueville. The helicopter reached the vessel at 7 a.m., where the medical team was hoisted aboard to assess the sailor's condition more accurately. Following the evaluation, the patient was promptly evacuated. By 9 a.m., the helicopter had landed in Cherbourg, where the sailor received immediate medical treatment before being transferred to Cherbourg Hospital. Subsequently, at 10 a.m., he was further transported to Jean Monot Hospital in Le Havre for specialized care. This swift response showcases the timely coordination between maritime and medical services in critical situations.
