Accident in St. Petersburg: Cargo Ship Runs Aground

Apr 29, 2015 12:10

On April 28, 2015, the cargo ship 'Accum', which had a pilot on board, encountered a critical incident while departing from the Big Port of St. Petersburg. The vessel had been at the Severnaya Verf Shipyard since April 26, 2015, when it experienced a power failure. This unfortunate event led the ship, destined for Brussels, to strike the edge of an enclosed section of the access sea channel near Zolotiye Vorota. Swift action was taken by the St. Petersburg-based towing company, Griphon Ltd., as the tugs 'Griphon-3' and 'Griphon-7' successfully refloated the 'Accum'. The vessel was subsequently towed to Pier No 63 for a thorough hull inspection at the Petrolesport Container Terminal, arriving at approximately 10:20 a.m. In addition, the multipurpose salvage vessel 'Alphard' from Rosmorrechflot's Maritime Salvage Service was also deployed to assist in the operation.

Inspection Reveals Overloaded Ship Listing in Brake

Nov 08, 2013 17:06

On November 6, 2013, the Water Police in Brake conducted an inspection of the cargo vessel 'Accum' after it arrived at port exhibiting a notable starboard list. The examination revealed a concerning safety issue, as the vessel's freeboard line was entirely submerged. It was determined that the 'Accum' was overloaded by approximately 40 tons, carrying a stated cargo of 2,666 tons of flax seed. Alarmingly, the crew was unable to provide a stability calculation for the journey from Liepaja to Brake. Following discussions with the safety department of BG traffic, the captain was required to remit a security deposit of around €630 due to the freeboard breach, along with a further €531 for the lack of stability documentation. A Port State Control was conducted on November 7, ensuring compliance before the 'Accum' was cleared to continue on its route to Hamburg, with an estimated time of arrival on November 8.

Accum Prepares to Depart Ipswich Following Successful Fire Suppression

Dec 13, 2012 11:05

The 'Accum', a vessel operated by Harvest Agency Services in Essex, is set to embark on its journey once again after experiencing a fire incident that resulted in minimal damage. The fire, which ignited in wooden crates located on the lower deck, was swiftly extinguished by the ship's carbon dioxide fire suppression system. Fortunately, the upper decks housing 100 vehicles only endured smoke-related damages. Following the incident that occurred on December 10, where seven fire crews vigorously worked for about three hours to address the fire, the ship has been awaiting the replenishment of its fire suppression system. It is now poised to leave Ipswich on December 13, with Cyprus as its destination—a voyage that will take approximately 16 days to complete. However, a thorough assessment of the extent of soot damage to the machinery crates will only be feasible after unloading the mixed cargo of used cars, lorries, and tractors.
