Ship Collision in Brake: 'Barbarossa' Strikes 'Loch Lomond'
On March 8, 2018, at approximately 10:20 a.m., the vessel 'Barbarossa' encountered a challenging situation as it approached the South Pier in Brake. Caught in the strong current, the ship collided with the bow of the bulk carrier 'Loch Lomond' (IMO No.: 9639464), which had departed from Immingham on March 4, making its way to the Weser River. It appears that the vessel's captain miscalculated the powerful currents present at the Weser bend in Brake. As a result, the outgoing tide rendered 'Barbarossa' unmanageable. Fortunately, while the incident caused some damage—including part of the railing and a rope basket on 'Barbarossa'—the estimated repair costs are only in the thousands of euros.
Incident Involving Cargo Vessel Barbarossa in Randers Fjord
On June 20, 2015, the cargo vessel 'Barbarossa' encountered a significant incident as it grounded in Randers Fjord near Uggelhuse. The ship was en route, transporting a load of iron ore to the Spanish port of Bilbao when the mishap occurred, resulting in notable damage. Once refloated, the vessel was permitted to navigate to Udbyhøj, where it dropped anchor for a thorough inspection. Divers from Seatek discovered a three-meter breach on the starboard side and confirmed that the forward ballast tank had taken on water. Following these assessments, the 'Barbarossa' received clearance to proceed to Grenaa for further evaluations. Departing Udbyhøj on June 22 at 6 p.m., the ship arrived in Grenaa by 7 p.m. The cargo was scheduled for transshipment before the vessel continued its journey. After successfully unloading in Grenaa on June 24 at 1:45 a.m., the 'Barbarossa' set sail for Klaipeda to undergo necessary repairs, anticipating arrival on June 26.
