On the morning of December 5, 2024, the ferry 'Red Jed 6' faced significant operational challenges, leading to the cancellation of four scheduled sailings due to a malfunctioning prop generator. Passengers anticipating the 9:45 a.m. service from Ryde Pier Head to Portsmouth Harbour were informed that the ferry would not be running. In response to the disruption, Wightlink allowed ticket holders to transfer their tickets to the Ryde to Southsea hovercraft. This unexpected change resulted in lengthy queues at Hovertravel as travelers sought alternative arrangements, highlighting the ripple effect of the ferry's technical difficulties.

On April 25, 2024, Red Funnel experienced significant disruptions as eight sailings of its high-speed Red Jet service were canceled following a technical malfunction. The issues arose when the coolant pump on the Red Jet 6 malfunctioned early in the afternoon. This incident led to the cancellation of the 12:40 p.m. sailing from Southampton and the 1:15 p.m. departure from West Cowes. In addition, the sailings at 3:35 p.m., 4:45 p.m., and 5:55 p.m. from Southampton, along with the 4:10 p.m., 5:20 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. departures from West Cowes, were also affected. Fortunately, the Red Jet 6 was back in operation the following day, departing Southampton at 8:20 a.m. and arriving in Cowes at 8:40 a.m.

Red Funnel's popular Red Jet service is experiencing significant disruptions that are expected to persist until at least March 22. Passengers relying on this high-speed ferry will find themselves using a replacement vessel provided by Blue Funnel, which means travel times are extending to up to 50 minutes compared to the normal 28-minute journey. This delay is due to reported water jet issues on the 'Red Jet 6' and a technical malfunction affecting the starboard jet room of the 'Red Jet 7'. Currently, the 'Red Jet 6' remains docked in Southampton alongside the 'Red Jet 4', while the 'Red Jet 7' has been sent to Wight Shipyard in East Cowes for urgent repairs on its jet propulsion system. To accommodate passengers during this period, Red Funnel is introducing three additional sailings from both Southampton and Cowes during peak hours. Below are the updated crossing schedules for the Red Jet service from March 19 to March 22: Departing Southampton: 05:30, 06:40, 07:50, 09:00, 10:20, 11:30, 12:40, 13:50, 15:00, 16:10, 17:20, 18:30, 19:40, 21:05, 22:30. Departing West Cowes: 06:05, 07:15, 08:25, 09:35, 10:55, 12:05, 13:15, 14:25, 15:35, 16:45, 17:55, 19:05, 20:15, 21:40, 23:05. In addition, Blue Funnel will provide extra crossings with the following schedule: Departing Southampton: 07:30, 09:50, 16:50; and departing West Cowes: 06:30, 08:50, 15:50. Passengers are urged to check schedules frequently for updates as the repair work progresses.
