Working Conditions Aboard the Red-Rover

In a significant move to uphold maritime safety standards, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has announced a 12-month ban on the Indonesian-flagged container ship Red Rover (IMO 9481673) from entering or utilizing any port in Australia. This unprecedented action follows the vessel's detention by AMSA on three separate occasions since September 2014, with the most recent incident occurring on January 28, 2015, in Fremantle, Western Australia. Each inspection revealed critical deficiencies in the ship's Safety Management System, specifically issues related to ineffective passage planning and the improper use of nautical charts and publications. Notably, this is the third vessel managed by PT Meratus Line (Company Number 0313623) to face such restrictions. Earlier this month, AMSA imposed a similar 12-month ban on the MV Meratus Sangatta (IMO 9116797), and in November of the previous year, the Territory Trader (IMO 8812899) also received a three-month ban. All three vessels have demonstrated consistent failures in operating and management standards, despite multiple warnings from AMSA to rectify these issues.
