On June 15, 2016, a tragic maritime accident occurred when the Japanese cargo vessel m/v "Yamato Maru No. 8", with a deadweight tonnage of 600 (IMO: 8815372), collided with the "Hosho Maru", which has a deadweight of 1,630 (IMO: 8742630). The collision transpired around 11:45 a.m. in the inner Japan Sea, approximately two miles off the coast of Ueshima Island in Hyogo Prefecture. At the time of the incident, the "Yamato Maru No. 8" was en route to Osaka North Port from Ako Port, laden with 1,300 metric tons of crushed stones. Unfortunately, the collision led to the capsizing and subsequent sinking of the "Yamato Maru No. 8". Among the three crew members on board, devastatingly, one crew member has been reported missing, while another succumbed to injuries at a hospital and one sustained minor injuries. The deceased were identified as Fumihiko Kita, aged 50, who served as the captain of the vessel, and Muneyuki Hamabuchi, a 28-year-old engineer. Meanwhile, all five individuals aboard the "Hosho Maru" emerged unscathed, and the vessel proceeded to Himeji Port following the incident.
