In a chilling encounter, the tugboat 'Remas' was boarded by armed pirates on April 9, 2020, at approximately 10:30 p.m. This audacious attack occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, roughly 70 miles north of Puerto Dos Bocas. During the incident, the assailants unleashed a torrent of gunfire, subsequently taking several crew members, including officers, as hostages. The pirates ruthlessly ransacked the vessel, seizing valuables and essential ship equipment before retreating. Thankfully, all 30 crew members emerged unscathed, as the hijackers utilized the hostages as human shields but did not intend to kidnap anyone. On November 11, 2019, the supply vessel 'Remas', carrying 35 crew members, fell victim to a brutal pirate attack in the Gulf of Mexico, just north of Ciudad del Carmen. A group of 7-8 armed pirates, utilizing two swift boats, managed to board the ship, resulting in injuries to two Italian crew members. Thankfully, their wounds were not life-threatening. After the pirates successfully looted valuable items from both the vessel and its crew, they made a hasty escape. The injured crew members were promptly taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Subsequently, the 'Remas' navigated to safety and secured itself at the anchorage of Ciudad del Carmen.
