Rembrandt-Van-Rijn Vessel Reviews and Specifications

On June 7, 2019, at approximately 5 p.m., the Northern Norway Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (HRS) received an alert regarding the sailing vessel "Rembrandt van Rijn" which had run aground on an unmarked rock in the Bore Bight area of Isfjord. Immediate response ensued, with the rescue vessel "Polarsyssel" and the pilot boat "Elling Carlsen" promptly arriving at the scene. In a coordinated effort, all passengers and an undetermined number of crew members were successfully transferred to the "Polarsyssel." Initial attempts to refloat the stranded vessel were unsuccessful, compounded by the ship's list. Consequently, the decision was made to delay further efforts until high tide could assist. Meanwhile, the evacuees were transported safely to Longyearbyen. At 5 a.m. on June 8, the timely intervention led to the "Rembrandt van Rijn" being smoothly towed off the rocky shallows, subsequently anchoring at By Quay in Longyearbyen. The vessel incurred only minor leaks and no substantial damage was recorded. After remaining in Harstad for repairs, the ship is expected to return to Longyearbyen by July 21.
