A container fire aboard the ‘Rhine Maersk’ has prompted an emergency stop at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife port. The blaze originated in one container and rapidly spread to adjacent containers, necessitating the captain's decision to divert the vessel. While the crew successfully managed to control the fire, authorities opted for a full extinguishing effort with the assistance of local firefighters to ensure safety. Noatum Maritime SAU, the shipping agency responsible for the vessel, promptly notified the Maritime Authority, triggering the appropriate emergency protocols. The ‘Rhine Maersk’ safely docked at the third alignment of the East dock for further assessment. The ship, which was carrying a total of 2,053 containers, both loaded and empty, subsequently moved to the TCTenerife terminal on November 11 to offload the fire-damaged cargo before continuing its route from Abidjan to Algeciras.
