Coast Guard Conducts Medevac Operation Off Port Aransas for Crewmember in Distress

Feb 28, 2022 10:04

On February 25, 2022, the U.S. Coast Guard successfully conducted a medical evacuation off the coast of Port Aransas, Texas, for a crewmember aboard the bulk carrier 'Richard Oldendorff.' At 1:03 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi received a distress call from the ship's agent indicating that a crew member was experiencing severe pain due to a potential leg infection. In response, watchstanders coordinated with the duty flight surgeon, who advised that a medevac was necessary. The Coast Guard Cutter 'Pelican,' along with a 45-foot Response Boat–Medium (RB–M) from Coast Guard Station Port Aransas, promptly altered their course to assist. When they arrived at the scene, the 'Pelican' took the injured crew member on board and subsequently transferred him to the RB–M. The crew of the RB–M then transported the individual to Seamans Wharf, where emergency medical services were prepped and waiting. Following the evacuation, EMS took the crewmember to Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Shoreline, where he was reported to be in stable condition. This proactive response underscores the U.S. Coast Guard's commitment to safeguarding lives at sea.

Oldendorff Carriers Teams Up with Welhunt for Major Transhipment Initiative in Vietnam

Nov 17, 2017 12:58

On November 12, 2017, a significant milestone in maritime logistics was achieved as the Babycape vessel "Richard Oldendorff" (IMO: 9496700, 118,532 tdw, built in 2011) reached the Go Gia buoys in southern Vietnam. This arrival marked the discharge of the heaviest bulk cargo ever offloaded in the nation, as reported by Oldendorff in their press announcement. Unloading commenced at the transhipment platform "Lena," where the ship carried approximately 115,000 metric tons of coal. Of this, 74,634 metric tons was designated for lightering operations to facilitate delivery to customers with draft-restricted ports in southern Vietnam. Following this stage, the "Richard Oldendorff" is expected to continue its journey to Campha port in northern Vietnam, where an additional 40,000 metric tons of coal will be discharged. This transhipment operation is a collaborative effort between Welhunt, an active player in the nation's coal trade, and Oldendorff Carriers, which specializes in ocean transportation. The alliance also encompasses Haivan Shipping Services Corporation (Haivanship), responsible for domestic waterway logistics in Vietnam. Together, they aim to deliver a secure, dependable, and cost-effective bulk transport solution to power stations and industrial clients in southern Vietnam.
