On February 20, 2018, the cargo ship 'Right Step' found itself in a legal bind at Brunsbüttel due to significant overloading as reported by the transport industry regulatory body. At approximately 11:50 PM, officials conducted a thorough inspection of the vessel at the New Northern Lock, revealing that the ship's freeboard was alarmingly low at under 10 centimeters, with an overburden of 146 tons identified. The vessel was en route from Hamburg to Abenraa with an alarming cargo of nearly 5,300 tonnes of construction rubble and contaminated soil.
