On August 20, 2023, the dry cargo ship RMS Laar, under the guidance of private marine pilot V. Pavlenko, was involved in a collision with the Eastern Dam of the Nevsky Gate at the Big Port of St. Petersburg. This incident, reported by Rosmorport, occurred at 02:05 p.m. Moscow Time, as the vessel was transitioning between berths. The RMS Laar, assigned to move from Berth KSZ-16 at Kanonersky Shipyard to Berth CV-2 at Severnaya Verf Shipyard, was on its way to the Nevsky Gate when concerns about its navigation were raised. The Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) operator duly alerted the ship's master about the critical approach of the bulker's forebody to the eastern end of the Nevsky Gate, emphasizing the need for caution.
